Sophie And Crohn's and Colitis UK
We are proud supporters of Crohn's and Colitis UK, a charity that helps provide research, information, and support to those struggling with Crohn's and Colitis. The reason that Sophie is extremely passionate and wishes to bring awareness to Crohn's and Colitis disease is a personal one. Even though she herself does not have the disease, we wish to honor the important person in her life who does. Sophie has asked us not to reveal WHO in her life is fighting Crohn's Disease. However, after researching this disease we realized the WHO she is fighting for wasn't important. It was learning about the pain and struggle, with no known cure, to be reason enough to fight for it anyway.
Sophie Skelton's Challenge
Sophie has asked for your help! Educating others with facts about it's severity is extremely important! The most common myth is that these diseases have something to do with the body's excrement and that is false! It is effected, however, its more about why it is effected and has everything to do with a person's immune system fighting itself. We need to turn the mentality of how this disease is viewed by talking about Crohn's and Colitis openly! This disease is known to be "embarrassing" for those who fight it, Those who do have it mask the discomfort and struggle in public society so they may experience life in ways that you take for granted. Just to give a perspective on how critical this disease can be, Crohn's has been known to claim lives! This is why we are asking that you try to help us fight by bring awareness and donating to Crohns and Colitis UK to help aid in the fight against IBD!
How Sophisticats Can Choose To Support CCUK
As a fan group we wanted to present a few opportunities for you to give to this cause. First, we've created a Just Giving account. 100% of anything donated goes directly to CCUK. We never see the money and it never crosses our hands. Secondly, we have our Official Fans Of Sophie Skelton Store. The designs were created by Mandi Tucker with the full creative input of Sophie herself. Our store is open 24/7/365. If you want a shirt, you may purchase at any time. The minimum gratuity is 10% for anything in our store and all earnings will go to CCUK quarterly every year.
What is Crohns?
Crohn's is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the lining of the digestive tract from mouth to anus. Additionally, patients with Crohn's disease may need to receive regular screening for colorectal cancer due to increased risk.
What is Colitis?
Ulcerative colitis affects only the inner lining of the colon, also known as the large intestine. Those who suffer with Colitis have a higher chance of achieving remission than someone diagnosed with Crohns.
Crohn’s disease vs. ulcerative colitis
Both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis (UC) are inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), but there are some key differences.
Symptoms of Crohn's and Colitis
Both Crohn's and Colitis can affect the body in the following ways:
- Belly cramps and severe and debilitating pain
- An urgent need to have a bowel movement
- Feeling like your bowel movement wasn’t complete
- Rectal bleeding
- Smaller appetite
- Weight loss
- Night sweats
- Problems with irregular menstrual cycles where their timing might be harder to predict.
Crohn's and Colitis are difficult diseases to diagnose from each others. Crohn's disease is often confused for Colitis because not only are the symptoms the same, it also includes symptoms of the entire GI tract. Then again, some people may be symptom free most of their lives, while others can have severe chronic symptoms that never go away. Medications such as steroids and immunosuppressants are used to slow the progression of disease. However, if medications aren't ineffective, a patient may require surgery.
