We are a group that prides ourselves on how we conduct ourselves with dignity and respect; both for each other and for Sophie. The following "rules" give us boundaries/guidelines to abide by to ensure Sophisticats conduct themselves in a way that ensures a quality and enjoyable experience for all. Please know that these rules incorporate ALL Sophisticat social media platforms. Anyone can PM or Contact a Sophisticat Admin/s at any time if you have comments, questions, or concerns and we encourage you to do so. Please know that if a dispute or decision needs a "final say" they are made by Mandi, the head admin, and are final.
***This is a living document and subjected to change with the needs and operation of Sophisticats.**
Strong opinions are welcome and certainly encouraged, but no bashing, name calling, or harassment will be tolerated under any circumstances. We seek to keep ourselves low on the “drama scale” in a very dramatic social media universe. However, we assume adult conversation, topics, and photos are something you agree too. Harassment towards fellow members or admins on any and all social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram or Tumblr will qualify for immediate removal/ban from all Sophisticat platforms.
#2 SOPHIE'S PRIVACY
Personal and private information regarding Sophie, her family, personal life, or other cast members will not be tolerated and you will be banned. Topics directly related to Sophie's career or Outlander in general are allowed. We also encourage you to tweet Sophie and tell her hello! She's a sweetheart and loves hearing from the fans! (@SkeltonSophie) If you are seen stalking or invading Sophie’s personal life, you will be blocked. This rule also falls under ALL social media platforms as well!
#3 DISCUSSIONS (via FB group)
During the time that Outlander is airing on Starz we will ask that group topics be either Sophie or Outlander related until the end of the current season within our discussion/(FB Group). This is due to the amount of press and excitement the show brings and it tends to keep the group busy during that time. However, during the off season, please feel free to discuss other books, television shows, or hobbies you are currently interested in to keep the conversations going. We want to encourage the making great friendships here and we understand that not everyone lives, breathes, and sleeps about all things Outlander.
#4 SPOILERS (BOOKS)
It is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to be 100% spoiler free, however, due to the new the show is bringing into the fold, we ask you to try. Yes, the Outlander books have been around for a while, but with the excitement of the TV Series, new fans are bound to emerge. We ask that seasoned fans allow them to enjoy that journey. New fans are a VERY good thing! So, if you wish to discuss topics regarding the books, please put a brief comment (Chapter/Characters/Scenes + the book title as your original post, and then put your spoiler as the thread's first comment. ***If someone has placed their topic/spoiler in the comments and you've read it, the admins will expect that you've read that thread of your own volition.***
#4 SPOILERS (EPISODES)
Due to the amount of members who have the opportunity to view the episodes early (ie midnight) a designated thread will be given to early viewers. This thread will be marked *CLEARLY* so those who wish, may scroll on by, and still participated within the group. Any discussions outside of this thread, will be deleted until AFTER the episodes are available to our lovely neighbors in the UK/Europe! ***For episodes/Seasons that have already been aired, there is no need for spoiler warnings.***
#5 PROBLEM MEMBERS
If you have a problem with a member, please DO NOT hash it out on our public platforms. Simply agree to disagree or block the member.
-If you find an offensive post, please report it to an admin.
-If a member becomes a problem, they are subject to permanent removal from the group without notice!
-DO NOT block the admins in the FB Group! We can still see you but won't be able to communicate with you. Doing so immediate removal from the group!
#6 MEMES, FAN ART, & PERSONAL PHOTOS
Memes, Fan Art, Fan Videos, etc, are always loved by fans! They get us through dry spells were nothing new may be going on! We cannot stress enough how important it is to mark your work with your name! Sophisticats are NOT responsible for any work that is taken or shared without permission! However, if your name is on it your work, the credit goes to you wherever the photo goes! We will not tell you what to do with your own work. What you do is 100% YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!
#7 "NOT SAFE FOR WORK" (NSFW) CONTENT
If we find it offensive, it will be removed. If you find it offensive, and we don't, feel free to scroll on or remove yourself from Sophisticats. We at Sophisticats have no personal qualms with nudity. Sophie has told us that if its in the show or in the Outlander books, that it's free game. Any fan videos with mature content from the show, for example, Season 1, Ep 7-The Wedding, MUST be marked with an NSFW in the original post for Sophisticats to share it.
#8 POLITICS & RELIGION
We all have different religious & political beliefs. Sophisticats is not the place to express them and any threads/comments will be deleted from all platforms. Please read our BLOG POST regarding this policy. It was written just after the 2016 US Presidential elections. This policy has also been affirmed by Sophie herself and we ask that you adhere to this out of respect for Sophie and those who do not share your opinions.
We recognized that voting is EXTREMELY important to the Outlander fandom. However, some fans like to vote, others do not. So that's why we're asking all members to keep the voting to one singular thread in our FB Group. We also would like to direct voters to our affiliate FB group dedicated solely to voting, the Outlander Voting Clan.
Anything unrelated to Sophie or Outlander without first seeking an admins permission first. Posts that aren't cleared are subjected to being deleted without notice.
Please don't post about pirating or ways to accomplish it (that would include links) anywhere on Sophisticats social platforms. Now, there are some differing opinions as to what pirating is or is not. For the sake of this discussion, the definition of pirating according to us will be, "The obtaining episodes or movies by any means other than through a company that has bought/own the rights to distribute said episodes or movie.” In other words, if you didn't purchase it, or borrow it from a personal friend or library, it's a pirated copy.
